Suncoast Harvest Food Bank History

From small beginnings in 1991, when the Pasco Food Depot, Inc. called the old Warren Fruit Packing Company facility in Land-O'-Lakes home, the Food Bank has grown steadily, reflecting the increasing need for food relief in our community. It was renamed the Suncoast Harvest Food Bank, Inc. in 1995, and in 1998 relocated to our new, centrally located 14,000 square foot facility in Land-O'-Lakes, FL.  The Food Bank currently serves Pasco, Hernando, Citrus and Sumter Counties.  We consistently maintain approximately 300,000 pounds of high quality, nutritious food products in inventory. In 2008 the SHFB distributed nearly 3.8 million pounds of food and personal/household care products through our member Agencies - a 42% increase over the previous year.

A Partner Distribution Organization of America's Second Harvest of Tampa Bay, the Suncoast Harvest Food Bank receives food from the America's Second Harvest Network of Food Banks, the United States Department of Agriculture, local food drives, such as the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive, and donations from individuals and local businesses.

The Suncoast Harvest Food Bank is a United Way of Pasco County Partner Agency and a member of the Florida Association of Food Banks.

The United States Internal Revenue Service recognizes the Suncoast Harvest Food Bank, Inc. as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. All donations to the Suncoast Harvest Food Bank, Inc. are tax-deductible.
